CLARIS THE MOUSE & CHARLOTTE SY DIMBY BIRTHDAY PARTY

For María Elisa's 4th birthday party we decided to create the setting of our favorite book 'Where is Claris in Paris?'. It precisely illustrates a birthday party. I studied the book and paid attention to all the details in order to incorporate them into the party.

Can you describe the invitations?

Although it was a very intimate party, with only close family members, I wanted to make special invitations, ones to be kept and cherished by guests; something to look back upon.

The invitation features a patisserie. Claris is standing behind the doors which open to reveal the party details. I was lucky to have the help of my talented cousin who is a graphic designer. It is worth having a professional to make all the stationery, it elevates the party!

Another idea is to purchase the ready-made Claris the Mouse party set straight from Megan Hess' e-shop which includes 10 A6 cards. Invitations are important as they set the tone.

Can you talk about the party decor and maybe give a few DIY tips?

The main idea was to create a replica of the invitation for the backdrop. We created the front of the patisserie with printed cardboard.

We also added balloon carousel horses that are part of the book and created our own balloon garlands. It seems difficult but with a little patience, you can create something really pretty. First inflate all the balloons then join them 4 by 4 and then join the series together until you obtain the number desired! The best is to use a colored ribbon to tie them together.

We recycled white Dior paper bags as vases filling them with flowers. The cake was also an essential part of the decor. I have my own patisserie Petite Repostería so I was able to make a three layer cake myself. We added cake toppers : Claris, her carrousel and her hot air balloon!

We also laid a beautiful table. Each guest had a decorated bag of sweets and we added many pink roses and hand-painted candles with flower details.

The girls had their own small table with an Atelier Choux Paris blanket for the French touch.

Can you talk about your child’s party outfit?

The outfit was one of the most important points for me and I had been planning it since last Spring.

The dress is a beautiful Charlotte sy Dimby Netti smocked dress, with embroidered flowers and ruffles. It was created specially for the event and sent from Paris for the party.

The accessories are all in soft pastel shades. The shoes are from the Spanish brand Okaaspain in a light pink color. I chose lace socks from the Barcelonian brand Condor and a light pink Baby Theory bow with her name embroidered on one side.

What type of games did you organise for the children? 

We set up an activity table for the children with popsicle-shaped slime and Kinect sand where they could pretend to make cakes, cupcakes and ice cream. 

And of course, in Mexico there can never be a children's party without the piñata, which was Claris wearing a replica of the Charlotte sy Dimby dress that María Elisa was wearing. It was the children's favorite moment.

What party favors did you have for the guests?

Macarons, Ladurée style chocolates with the number 4, little desserts and my favorite : candy bags in the form of Dior handbags.

What was your favorite moment of the party? 

My favorite moment was when María Elisa arrived and saw everything for the first time, the smile on her face and her happiness was priceless!

Another sweet moment was at night, when the party was over and she had to go to sleep. She didn't want to take her dress off and begged me to keep it on. She kept saying "Mom please don't take it from me! It is too beautiful!" It melted my heart.
